Pushferry has two halves. You have seen the cabinet; this is the other one — the app that lives on the phone holding your SIM. It watches for incoming messages, forwards them where you asked, and puts your outgoing messages on the radio when the API asks for one.

Check what you downloaded first

This file does not come from a store, so nothing has checked it on your behalf. Confirm it is ours before you install it. On a computer, in the folder you downloaded it to:

If a single character differs, delete the file and download it again. Do not install it. The same applies to any copy of this app you find anywhere other than this page.

What it needs

Android 6.0 or newer.
A SIM card in the phone. Pushferry sends through your own SIM, on your own tariff. A tablet or a phone without a SIM has nothing to send with.
Mains power and a network. The phone is a piece of infrastructure now. Leave it plugged in.

Installing it

Copy the file to the phone, or download it on the phone directly.
Open it. Android will say the browser or file manager is not allowed to install apps — follow the prompt and allow it for that one app.
Install, open Pushferry, and link the phone to your account with the code from the cabinet.

Android will warn you about this app, and it is right to. Play Protect flags anything installed outside the Play Store that it has not seen before — not because it found something wrong, but because it has nothing to compare against. That is exactly the check you should want a phone to make. It is also why the hash above matters: it is the part you can verify yourself.

The permissions it asks for

Pushferry asks to send and receive SMS, and to show notifications. There is no way to forward or send SMS without them, and we ask for nothing beyond what the feature you turn on needs. What the app does with messages is described in the privacy policy; the short version is that for most destinations the phone forwards them straight to you and the text never reaches our servers at all.

Which edition is this

This is the Full build — for a phone you dedicate to the job. The lighter Sender build is not out yet. The editions page explains the difference.

Updates and stores

The app is not in Google Play or any other store yet, so it will not update itself. When a new version is out we will say so here, and you install it over the top — your settings and the link to your account survive.
